Growing Grain regions in Western Australia

Wheat Belt

The main crop-growing rehion in Western Australia is the Wheat Belt. This occupies 60,000 squre miles in the southwestern part of Western Australia. This place is served by the Perth-Albany railway. This has a crescent-shaped belt that delineated with a line on the west from Geraldton to Moora, Northam up until Katanning at the western end of the Great Australian Bight. The eastern boundary of this area extends up to the Southern Cross. Th wheat Belt gets 20 inches of rain every year from the west, which declines to 10 inches in the east.

Rainfall

Western Australia’s grain growing regions, considered as the biggest wheat producers for 2011 and 2012 will be receiving above-average rainfall for the months of September, October and November. This may shore up crops even before harvesting. Wheat Belt, situated in the southwest of Western Australia, the primary grain-growing region, will probably receive above-average rainfall. This is according to the Bureau of Meteorology. There will be drier conditions that will be favored on some of the areas in southern Australia.

Benefit

The rainfall that will happen in Wetsern Australia provides optimism to the state, because this may mean that the overall wheat harvest in the biggest grain-growing region in Australia will definitely increase. This is opposite to the dry seasons in the eastern parts of Australia that brought about lower  yields. The growers in the west are now relying on the rain that will come form September to October.

Paul Deane

According to the Melbourne economist at the Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd., Paul Deane, the rainfal will definitely increase the possibility that Western Australia will have an excellent crop yield. He predicts that there will be 9.2 million metric tons of wheat output in Australia. That is if the anticipated rainfal will really come in Western Australia. The Chicago Board of Trade show that the wheat in Melbourne fell during December, but the Grain Industry Association of Western Australia said that the production in the state will increase this year.

Condition

Western Australia, though it is the biggest grain-growing region in Australia, and Wheat Belt is its largest grain-growing region, it still experienced a low yield in crop last year. This means, any land is vulnerable when it comes to the dry season. There are also other parts of Australia where too much rainfall cause the low yields of crop. However, according to some major orghanizations and important people, the crop yield of Wetsern Australia this year will definitely increase in crop yield. This is because of the rainfall that will happen from September to October of this year. This is a good news for the growers, because this can help them get back to their feet after the low yield in December of last year.
